Should we do something with our psychic information

Have you ever had a dream or an intuition about something that you thought was going to happen? If so, do you keep the vision to yourself? Or did you share with anyone?

Does anyone remember the show The Dead Zone? It was a TV Show based on a Stephen King novel. When Johnny Smith, a high school science teacher, recovers from his coma he starts using his newfound psychic ability to go back and forward in time to solve crimes and do good. I don’t know how many people who watched that show later went on to actually develop psychic ability, however it seems almost universal that when people start getting information (myself included), we want to do something with it.

Perhaps it’s the Hollywood’s influence. Or maybe we have a instinctive drive to use a super power for good. Regardless of the impulse, it’s common to feel compelled to take action with the information we may start being shown. However, until we develop a deep rapport with God and our spiritual guidance, I highly recommend not doing much with the downloads at all. Instead, think of these hits as an invitation to really start paying attention and begin to investigate the source and purpose of the downloads.

In my intuitive development workshops I repeat ad nauseam that our intuitive ability will give us access to more information for us to work with and decipher. Decipher being an operative word in that learning to speak the language of intuition often feels like cracking a code. Intuition is mysterious and fluid. Intuition in the way I experience it, also seems to me tied to the essence of things. In the same way that the English word love and the Spanish word amor are sounds we use to communicate a dimension of our relational experience, dreams and visions are often symbols through which our intuition is communicating something essential.

In dreams and in client sessions, it is often a feeling, a knowing, a general vibe conveyed with those symbols that I am most keenly attuned to. And the visuals that come with them can be helpful in providing context or filling in gaps in my conscious awareness. Visions and dreams can be literal and I have my share of these for sure. More commonly in my experience, they are entirely symbolic and more like a metaphor for an underlying essence wanting to be addressed. For the sake of sanity and caution, I will first consider the majority of my dreams and visions as metaphorical.

While I have certainly become more discerning, my ability to recognize a psychic hit reflecting stone cold reality versus a metaphor or even a day dream is far from perfect. Which is why even after twenty-five years of meditation and intuitive investigating I first consider whatever coming in as curious information. I don’t take action. I don’t post to social media. I don’t pick up the phone and call the person I dreamt about. I simply sit with the information or investigate further in an intentional setting.

If the download is not a 100%, crystal clear deep knowing, then I will drop into meditation and ask God and my guidance what was the purpose of what I was shown. Sometimes it’s an awareness dressed as a metaphor. Sometimes it’s a lesson wrapped up with true insight. Sometimes, but more rarely, is it information I am supposed to pass along to someone. Here’s the really important kicker — sometimes there’s no other context provided. Maybe it’s days, weeks, months or even years, before what dropped in reveals itself in my experience or never at all. That happens plenty too. I’m telling you — intuition is mysterious :)

So, if you’re someone who is having a psychic awakening — intentionally or not — rest easy in knowing there is no urgency or rush to be sharing what you’re being shown or trying to save the world. Instead, I’d treat this as a higher spiritual calling to be answered, a budding dimension of yourself reaching out for attention. Turn your awareness to God, connect with your spirit guides or even an earthly spiritual guide and begin a dialogue. Treat the information as an invitation to expand your consciousness, to deepen your awareness of yourself and the world you live in first and foremost. After all, if you can’t learn to grow and empower yourself with this newfound information, is it ever really going to be helpful to anyone else?
