What Is Clairsentience? Understanding Your Psychic Sense of Feeling
TLDR: Clairsentience is the intuitive sense of clear feeling — the ability to receive spiritual information through both physical sensation and emotional experience. It is connected to the solar plexus and sacral chakras, it is the most universally accessible of all the intuitive senses, and your body has been speaking this language your whole life. The work is simply learning to listen.

What Is Clairsentience?
I've got a feeling …today we're gonna to talk about clairsentience…
Clairsentience means clear feeling. It is the ability to receive spiritual information through the felt experience of the body, both the physical sensations and the emotional ones. It’s the warmth that spreads through your chest when you are in the presence of someone you love. The subtle tightening in your gut when something is not quite right. The inexplicable wave of joy that arrives in a moment when nothing in particular has happened to cause it. The unease you feel around a person who says all the right things but leaves you feeling somehow off.
Your body is already fluent in this language. It has been speaking it your entire life. What we are doing here is learning to consciously understand what those feelings are saying.
The Two Chakras Behind Clear Feeling
Clairsentience is one of the few intuitive senses that works through two chakra centers simultaneously, and understanding which two helps explain why this sense shows up the way it does.
The first is the solar plexus chakra, located about three inches above the belly button and expressed in the color yellow. This center is responsible for the physical dimension of clairsentience, the direct, somatic sensations of the body. The coolness of air on skin. The feeling of gripping something in your hands. The physical sensation of tension, or openness, or ease. When your body physically responds to something in your environment, that is predominantly the solar plexus speaking.
The second is the sacral chakra, located about three inches below the belly button and expressed in the color orange. This center carries the emotional dimension of clairsentience, the feelings of joy, sadness, excitement, betrayal, love, and fear that arise in response to our experiences and to the people and environments around us.
Together, these two centers create what we experience as our felt sense. Think about it: we talk all the time about gut instincts and gut feelings. We say "I had a hunch" or "something in my gut told me." And when you look at where the solar plexus and the sacral chakra actually live in the body, right in that area, it is not an accident that we have been pointing to our gut as a source of knowing all along. We were always describing something real. We just did not always have the language for what it was.
Why Clairsentience Is the Most Universal Intuitive Sense
In the workshops I have done, I have walked rooms full of people through exercises for each of the intuitive senses and asked them to raise their hand when something is firing. It is not a scientific study, and I want to be clear about that. But what I have observed however. consistently, is that clairsentience is the sense that almost everyone raises their hand when I ask.
I think there is a reason for that.
We live in our bodies. We have been receiving physical and emotional information through our felt senses since the moment we arrived on this Earth. Even before we had language to describe what we were experiencing, we were feeling our way through the world. Clairsentience is, in this way, is possibly the most primal and more accessible of the intuitive senses.
My job here is not to teach you something entirely new. It is to bring what is already happening in you into a more conscious awareness. To help you realize that the feelings moving through your body are not random, they are not just background noise, they are not something to push past or manage or medicate into silence. Feelings are information. They are communication. They are the body's way of knowing what the mind has not yet fully processed.
Feelings as the Language of the Soul
Listen folks, in astrology both my sun and mercury sit in Pisces, a water sign. Emotions have always been a very present dimension of my experience, sometimes overwhelmingly so. For awhile I related to that fact as if it were a liability, something to manage and contain rather than develop and trust.
What I have come to understand is that emotions and physical sensations are, at a deep level, the language through which the soul communicates with the physical body. The felt sense is how that higher intelligence within us, the soul, the spirit, what I call the soul force, speaks to the part of us that moves through the world day to day.
When something resonates deeply and you feel it expand in your chest, that is soul communication. When you are about to make a choice that is out of alignment with your truth and your stomach tightens in a way you cannot explain, that is soul communication. When you walk into a room and feel, before anyone speaks, that something difficult happened here recently, that is soul communication. It is all clairsentience. And it is all meaningful.
The question is not whether your body is speaking to you. It is whether you are listening.
A Clairsentience Exercise to Try Right Now
This exercise is designed to do one specific thing: calibrate your felt sense. To give you a conscious experience of what different emotional and physical states actually feel like in your body, so that when those sensations arise in the context of real life, you have a reference point.
Find a quiet place. Take three deep, intentional energy-clearing breaths. Inhale fully, exhale completely, and settle.
Draw your awareness to your solar plexus, about three inches above the belly button. Breathe into that center. Imagine breathing in a warm yellow light, activating and energizing this center with each inhale. Then drop your awareness to the sacral chakra, three inches below the belly button. Breathe here too, feeling this center open and awaken. Let both centers settle into awareness simultaneously.
Now I am going to walk you through a series of felt experiences. For each one, set the intention on the inhale and on the exhale simply allow the feeling to arise in the body. Notice what comes. Notice where you feel it. Notice the quality of it.
Call in what it feels like to hug someone you deeply love. Physically. Emotionally. Let your body remember it fully.
Take a breath, clear it out.
Call in what it feels like to sit next to someone you genuinely do not get along with. What does that feel like in the body? What sensations arise?
Take a breath, clear it out.
Call in what it feels like to help someone. What does that feel like? Where do you feel it?
Take a breath, clear it out.
Call in what it feels like when you have done harm to someone, intentional or otherwise. What does that feel like in the body?
Take a breath, clear it out.
Call in what it feels like when someone has lied to you or betrayed your trust. Where does that land?
Take a breath, clear it out.
Call in what it feels like when you have done something you are genuinely proud of. Something that brings real joy. Let that arise in the body.
Take a breath, clear it out.
And finally, from this place of openness and bodily awareness, ask your higher self and loving awareness: is there any emotion or feeling I need to be aware of today for my highest spiritual good?
Breathe out and simply notice what the body offers in response.
When you are ready, take three more clearing breaths and gently open your eyes.
What the Exercise Is Actually Teaching You
I chose those particular prompts deliberately, and I want to explain why, because understanding the intention behind it deepens what you take away.
I moved you through polarities, love and conflict, helping and harming, betrayal and pride. Not to be dramatic, but because the spectrum between those extremes is the same spectrum your felt sense navigates every single day. When you have consciously felt both ends, you are better equipped to notice where on that spectrum a given situation or person is landing.
Here is what I mean practically. Say you meet someone who says all the right things, presents beautifully, and checks every logical box. But something in your body feels like that exercise, the one where you were sitting next to someone you do not get along with. That is information to consider. It’s not a final verdict. Not instructions. But information worth noticing.
When I ran through this exercise myself, what arrived at that final question was a feeling of centeredness and balance right in the core. It felt like being pulled out of the ping-pong between my very physical, athletic self and my meditative, spiritually oriented self, and landing right in the middle. Grounded. Balanced. Here. Now.
Your experience will be your own. There is no right answer. There is only what is true for you, in your body, in this moment.
How to Work with Clairsentience in Daily Life
The goal of this work is not to turn your felt sense into an oracle you consult for every decision. It is to stop glazing over it.
We do that more than we realize. We feel something that does not fit the narrative we want to believe, and we push past it, because capitalism said it is okay, or our boss told us to, or we do not want to seem difficult, or the logical case for the thing is so strong. And sometimes later we find ourselves saying I knew something was off. I felt it. I just didn’t listen.
I am not here to tell you what to do with the feelings that arise. That investigation is yours, and it is part of the beautiful, ongoing work of becoming more a conscious person. What I want to offer is this: your body is talking to you all the time. Every sensation, every emotional flicker, every gut response is a piece of information about the energetic reality of what you are moving through and it deserves your attention.
Start simple. When a feeling arises, name it. That feels like joy. That feels like anxiety. That feels like openness. That feels like contraction. Just noticing, just naming, is the beginning of developing a conscious, working relationship with this part of yourself.
An Unexpected Teacher: Acting Class
I want to share something that surprised me about my own development of this sense, because I think it might open a door for you.
I was a child actor. And as an adult, after years of personal training and athletics, I found myself wanting to reconnect with that creative, exploratory part of myself. So I went back to acting class.
And something unexpected happened. In acting class, you work with emotions deliberately and consciously. You call them up, you inhabit them, you practice moving through the full range of human feeling with intention. What is joy? What does it feel like in the body? What does anger actually feel like, as opposed to what we think it looks like? What does betrayal feel like from the inside?
I started bringing that same practice into my meditations. I would sit quietly and call up an emotion, deliberately, to feel it consciously. Joy. Anger. Grief. Skepticism. Wonder. And something opened up. The emotional body became more legible to me. The felt sense became sharper.
So here is the invitation. Whether or not you have any interest in acting, consider spending time this week in meditation deliberately calling up different emotional states and asking your body to show you what each one feels like. Use the intentional time and space as a laboratory for learning your own emotional language.
Your body is not just a vehicle you move around in. It is one of the most sophisticated intuitive instruments you have. The more fluent you become in its language, the more clearly you can hear what it is telling you, and the more consciously you can live in alignment with the truth of who you are.
